The business agents in the state said if the proposition go unchallenged and get carried out, the diamond and jewellery industry will have a devastating effect as the US has proposed to require levies up to 25% on the items.
“We are preparing plans to challenge the proposition in the US courts and are additionally keeping in touch with the Center to address the issue,” said Rajeev Jain, previous director of Gem and Jewelry Exports Promotion Council.
He said numerous items made or prepared in Rajasthan like semiprecious stones, silver jewellery, gold necklaces, and base metal chains clad with gold are referenced in the rundown.
“In the event that this occurs, the entire business will move to Hong Kong and we need to close our fare business in light of the fact that the US represents 25% of the immediate shipments. Moreover, a tremendous volume is steered through the US to other worldwide business sectors,” added Jain.
