Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has decided to put off an exhibition of gems and jewellery, Sparkle, by a month, citing lack of sponsors following demonetisation. The event was scheduled to be held from December 16 to December 19, but now it would be held from January 19 to January 22.

Mumbai: The 50TH Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) The Gem & Jewellery Export Council (GJEPC), held on December 20, 2016, took some significant decisions. For one, the body approved changes in its code of ethics, necessary to complete the process of the GJEPC induction as a member into the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The AGM also approved the formation of the Trade Disciplinary Committee (TDC) by the GJEPC, together with the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and the Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association (MDMA).

India’s Polished Diamond Exports Dip 10% in Nov

Mumbai: Exports of cut and polished diamonds from India stood at US$ 1.19 billion in November 2016, a drop of 10% as compared to the US$ 1.32 bn in the same month a year earlier, according to provisional data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). Exports of gold jewellery (both studded and plain) also slowed, declining by 35% to US$ 547.5 million during the same period as compared to US$ 844.67 mn a year earlier.

Dublin: Karelian Diamonds, an Irish company that is currently engaged in diamond exploration projects in Finland, said it has raised capital of £425,000 (€505,000), prior to expenses, through a placing of shares. It said that it would use the money raised “to fund the advancement of the company’s principal diamond opportunities”.
