Colombo: Sri Lanka for the first time is
participating in the Jakarta International Jewellery Fair at the Jakarta
Convention Center (JCC) from 20th to 23rd April 2017.
National Gem and Jewellery Association
(NGJA) is leading a delegation of 15 representatives from prominent gem
companies to the fair.
Mumbai: Gold jewellery sale is expected to
rise sharply on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya this year, after an
appreciating rupee prompted many to book a piece for delivery on the due date.
A stronger rupee has mean the Indian price rise is slower than abroad, reports
Business Standard.
The government of India has announced the
first sovereign gold bonds of the financial year a few days ahead of Akshaya
Tritiya, considered auspicious for buying gold.

Mumbai: India’s Gem & Jewellery Export
Promotion Council (GJEPC) and ALROSA have agreed to work together more closely
for resolution of a number of issues facing the diamond industry, following a
recent meeting at the ALROSA headquarters in Moscow that GJEPC Chairman
Praveenshankar Pandya had with newly appointed ALROSA president Sergey Ivanov,
and Vice Presidents Yuri Okoyomov and Andrey Polyakov. This was first meeting
with the GJEPC since Ivanov recently assumed his new responsibility.
London: A family-run Yorkshire firm has
just dispatched its largest order – nearly three miles of hoses to a diamond
mine in Angola.
New Delhi: India’s Supreme Court has told
officials pushing for fresh attempts to bring the priceless Koh-i-Noor diamond,
now part of the British crown jewels, that it cannot interfere in the
diplomatic process nor can it direct another country to not auction the gem.
Harare: Zimbabwe said it will not support
the civil society’s sponsored move to expand the definition of conflict
diamonds to include issues such as human rights.
Mines minister Walter Chidhakwa told Rough
& Polished that Harare engaged the South Africans on the sidelines of the
African Mining Indaba last February and they also indicated their discomfort
with the overhaul of the definition.
Beijing: Retail sales of gold, silver and
jewellery continued its winning streak in China, recording a 7.9 percent
increase in the first quarter of 2017, data from the National Bureau of Statistics
of China showed.
Hong Kong: Industry players have until
midnight of May 5 (Hong Kong time) to join the JNA Awards, one of the world’s
most prestigious awards in the global jewellery and gemstone sector.
