Dar Es Salaam: Petra Diamonds said it is in talks with the Tanzanian government concerning
requirements that the group offer a 30 percent stake in the Williamson diamond
mine to Tanzanian interests as well as list on the Dar es Salaam stock
exchange. The Tanzanian government already owned a 25 percent stake in the
Williamson mine.
Beijing: The Guangzhou Diamond Exchange
(GZDE) held its first sale of rough diamonds this month, noting strong demand
for goods listed on its online platform.
Amsterdam: A Dutch court this week upheld a
2013 ruling ordering Tiffany & Co. to pay Swatch Group $450 million (CHF
402.7 million) in damages from their failed joint watch venture, Tiffany
reported.

Mumbai: Gems &Jewellery Skill Council
of India (GJSCI) conducted a two day
free eye check-up camp at the Seepz for the artisans. The workshop was
inaugurated on 17th April in the presence of Mr Binit Bhatt, CEO, GJSCI.
Mumbai: India’s Exports of Gems and
Jewellery increased 9.85% to USD 43,156.21 mn in FY17 (provisional data in
April 2016 to March 2017) vis-a-vis USD 39,244.29 mn in FY16 (April 2015 to
March 2016). Gross exports of cut and polished diamonds in FY17 increased to
USD 22,783.81 mn witnessed a growth of 10.24% in FY17 as compared to USD
20,667.79 mn in FY16.
Gaborone: Anglo American has dismissed
reports that it deviated from the course of action when it decided last year to
focus on its strongest market positions in diamonds, PGMs and copper.
Toronto: Mountain Province’s share of
production from the new Gahcho Kué diamond mine in Canada amounted to 424,830
carats in the first quarter, though the company reported lower sale prices than
anticipated.
Mumbai: GIA (Gemological Institute of
America) will introduce for sale later this year an easy-to-operate,
sophisticated desktop instrument to reliably identify natural diamonds,
separating them from all simulants and from diamonds that may be synthetic or
treated.
Mumbai: The All India Gems and Jewellery
Trade Federation (GJF) expects robust sales this Akshaya Tritiya (April 28)
across India. Consumer demand is expected to be strong due to the wedding
season and traditional custom to buy gold on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
