Highlights from the Geneva Magnificent Jewels Sale to be held on the 16 May, will be touring and on public view in Christie’s flagship galleries in Hong Kong, London and New York during May 4 – 8. The sale will feature a selection of exceptional items with over 400 jewels on offer, ranging from diamonds to high-quality coloured stones, Art Déco, Retro and animal-themed jewellery.

 

Among the top lots being toured is a spectacular fancy vivid yellow diamond ring of 20.49 carats estimate: CHF 3,800,000 – 4,500,000 and an important late 19th century emerald and diamond necklace, by Tiffany & Co., circa 1880 estimate: CHF 700,000 – 1,200,000, which was originally sold at Christie’s New York, over 20 years ago.

 

Additional highlights include, a fancy intense purplish pink diamond ring estimate CHF 3,500,000 - 5,000,000, a pair of Burmese sapphire earrings, by Bulgari estimate: CHF 1,500,000 – 2,000,000, a pair of earrings, mounted with two emeralds of over 40 carats each, originating from the historic Muzo mines in Colombia estimate: CHF 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 and a mid-20th century emerald and diamond brooch, Cartier estimate: CHF 80,000 – 120,000.

Update 3: Organisers of the first Bharat Diamond Week at the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai, India, said the show exceeded expectations. The Bharat exchange is already planning the next edition of the fair which it says will be even bigger and feature new elements.

The first-ever Bharat Diamond Week was opened by US Consul General Edgard D. Kagan in the presence of BDB President Anoop Mehta, GJEPC Chairman Pramod Agarwal, MDMA President Mahendra Gandhi, Diamond Dealers Club of New York President Reuven Kaufman, and Rosy Blue (India) Managing Director Russell Mehta. The Belgian Consul General in Mumbai, Peter Huyghebaert, also visited the fair.

CIBJO is paying tribute to the memory of a former president, Friedrich (Fritz) Schwarzer, who died recently in Austria, after decades of public service in the jewellery industry, both in his native country and internationally, and more than 60 years of experience in the trade. He headed the World Jewellery Confederation from 1993 through 1996.

Lucara Diamond Corp announces the recovery of a 327 carat, top white gem diamond, from its 100% owned Karowe Diamond Mine located in Botswana. Eight diamonds greater than 100 carats have now been recovered at Karowe since the beginning of the year, including the 472 carat diamond announced earlier this month.

India grew to USD 41 bn in FY18 as against USB 21 bn in FY08

 

Gold Jewellery exports jumps around

11% at USD 9673.23 mn in FY18 vis-à-vis

USD 8,721.88 mn in FY17

 

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India, announced the performance figures for the Indian Gems & Jewellery Sector for FY 20017- 18. The Indian Gem and Jewellery industry has witnessed a decline of 5.06 % with total gem & jewellery exports recorded at USD 40972.36 million (Rs. 264130.64 crores ) as compared to USD 43,157.11 million ( Rs. 289207.47 crores) in the same period last year.

 

The growth in the sector was primarily driven by the Cut & Polished Diamonds (CPD) segment, which witnessed an increase of 4.17%. The export sales of CPD grew to USD 23732.96 million during FY 2017-18 from USD 22,783.85 million in the corresponding period in FY 2016-17, while total volume of CPD were at 348.60 Lakh carats during FY 2017-18 as compared to 322.13 lakh carats in the corresponding period in FY 2016-17.
