Sibanye-Stillwater
announced that all 13 of its employees who were trapped underground at its
Masakhane mine, Driefontein operations had been recovered and brought to
surface by mine rescue personnel. Six of the employees, were successfully
rescued and transported to hospital, and remain in a stable condition.
It
is with much sadness and regret however, that the Board and management of
Sibanye-Stillwater confirmed that seven of the 13 employees who were retrieved,
passed away from injuries sustained during the incident. The families of all of
the employees have been contacted and assisted with transport to the mine, and
have been receiving necessary support and counselling, which will be ongoing.
De
Beers Group announced that it has successfully tracked 100 high-value diamonds
along the value chain during the pilot of its industry blockchain platform,
marking the first time a diamond’s journey has been digitally tracked from mine
to retail.
An
immutable and secure digital trail was created for a selection of rough
diamonds mined by De Beers as they moved from the mine to cutter and polisher,
then through to a jeweller.
The
platform, called Tracr, is expected to launch later this year and will be open
to the industry. When fully operational, Tracr will provide consumers with
confidence that registered diamonds are natural and conflict-free, improve
visibility and trust within the industry, and enhance efficiencies across the
diamond value chain.
Dunnedin
Ventures provides an update on its ongoing 2018 drill program at its 100% owned
Kahuna project, Nunavut. The Company has drill-tested five of approximately 40
targets (13%), with potentially diamond-bearing kimberlite intercepted at two
targets. Of the five targets drilled, two were high count DIM-in-till targets,
both of which yielded significant extensions to the known high-grade
diamond-bearing PST and 07KD-24 kimberlite dikes.

CIBJO,
the World Jewellery Confederation, will hold its 2018 annual congress in
Bogotá, Colombia, October 15-17, with pre-congress meetings beginning on
October 13.
The
congress will be hosted by Fedesmeraldas, the National Federation of Emeralds
of Colombia, which this year will be a celebrating the 20th anniversary of its
founding. Immediately prior to the event, from October 12 to 14, Fedesmeraldas
will also host the second edition of the World Emerald Symposium, which CIBJO
Congress participants are encouraged to attend.
The
main venue for the CIBJO Congress will be the Grand Hyatt Bogotá, which is
located in the heart of Ciudad Empresarial Sarmiento Angulo, the city's
commercial district.
With
about a week to go until the 4th Mediterranean Gemmological and Jewellery
Conference (MGJC) kicks off on May 18 in Budva, Montenegro, the excitement and
anticipation toward the event is building.

Minister

Lucara
Diamond announces results for the three months ended as on March 31, 2018.
According to the highlighted in the report, Lucara achieved revenues of $25.4
million over the Q1 2017 had been stood at $26.1 million or $401 per carat (Q1
2017: $405 per carat) for its first regular tender, yielding an operating
margin of $170 per carat or 42% during the three months ended March 31, 2018.
Recovered
218 specials, single diamonds >10.8 carats in size-during the quarter; the
third best tally since mining began in 2012. Q1 2018 EBITDA of $1.4 million
tumbled as compared to $4.9 million in
Q1 2017. Net loss for the three months ended March 31, 2018 was $7.0 million as
compared to a loss of $1.5 million in the comparative quarter and is
attributable to lower revenues, higher depletion and amortization costs, higher
administrative and other expenses as compared to the same period in 2017.
