Danat is raring to introduce its services to the gemstone and jewellery (GJ) industry during the September Fair, “The June Fair was Danat’s first official participation in an international exhibition. We have set a personal benchmark, which is something the trade now expects from Danat in all future participations,” Danat CEO Kenneth Scarratt says.

 

“For the September Fair, we will build upon that and provide on-site testing for pearls, gemstones and jewellery items. We will be hosting lectures presented by Danat’s Field Gemmologists highlighting recent gemmological expeditions, and we will also be showcasing items of jewellery, which we believe will be a big attraction.”

Quarterly Report on Public Debt Management for the Q1 of FY 2018-19 (April to June 2018) released

Public Debt Management Cell (PDMC) (earlier Middle Office), Budget Division, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance has today brought-out the Quarterly Report on Debt Management for the Quarter April-June 2018 (Q1 FY 2019).

 

During Q1 of FY19, the Central Government issued dated securities worth Rs. 1,44,000 crore in 12 tranches as against Rs. 1,68,000 crore in Q1 of FY18. The Weighted Average Maturity (WAM) of new issuances increased to 15.16 years from 14.92 years in Q1 of FY 18 owing to issuances of longer tenor securities. The weighted average yield (WAY) of issuances for the same quarter was 7.76 per cent compared to 7.01 per cent in Q1 of FY 18.

Botswana is one of the few countries in sub-Saharan Africa that has truly benefited from its mineral wealth. Revenues from diamond mines, combined with sound economic policies, have helped build infrastructure and kept the economy stable. But with high unemployment and limited export diversification, the diamond and public sector-led development model is showing its limits.

 

The IMF’s latest assessment of Botswana’s economy says that while the near- and medium-term prospects look reasonably good, a much less favorable scenario looms if the development model is not revamped and certain reforms are not implemented. Enrique Gelbard, who heads the IMF team for Botswana, sat down with Country Focus to discuss the report’s findings.

Alrosa put 163 rough diamonds for the auction

Alrosa, the largest diamond mining company in the world, is auctioning special size rough diamonds (over 10.8 carats) in Hong Kong, including fancy colour stones.

 

The company put 163 gem-quality rough diamonds with total weight of 2,615 carats for the auction, which started on September 3. The assortment includes 26 rough diamonds of fancy yellow colours.

77 companies from Russia, Belgium, Hong Kong, Israel, India, China and the UAE are invited to participate in the auction. On September 12-16, Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will take place, and the company plans to display the auctioned diamonds for visitors of the fair. The results of the auction will be summed up on September 20.
