New ambassadors for Skill India Campaign

The Hindi film stars, Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, have been signed on to promote and endorse the Skill India Mission, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The duo, through their film ‘Sui Dhaaga - Made in India’, are saluting India’s entrepreneurs and skilled workforce, especially home grown artisans, craftspeople and weavers who are making the country proud the world over.

The film highlights the untapped potential of India’s talented craftsmen and skilled workers at the grass root level and the challenges and issues faced by them. Varun and Anushka, the star cast of the film, have partnered Skill India and will dedicate time to promote India’s skilled talent and their fine work by engaging with them across different parts of the country.

Launches of e-newsletter MSME

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Giriraj Singh, launched MSME Insider – a monthly e-newsletter of the Ministry here. Speaking on the occasion, Giriraj Singh said that the e-newsletter will give information of the activities undertaken by the Ministry and also act as a bridge between the Ministry and the millions of MSME units spread across the country.

CIBJO releases Gemmological Report

With fewer than four weeks to go to the opening of the 2018 CIBJO Congress in Bogotá, Colombia, on October 15, 2018, the sixth of the CIBJO commissions' Special Reports has been released. Prepared by the CIBJO Gemmological Commission, headed by Hanco Zwaan, it reveals the results of a survey of 23 gemmological laboratories from around the world, about whether and how they report on synthetic and treated diamonds.

Women Artisanal Gold Miners in Ottawa

Two women artisanal gold miners from the Democratic Republic of Congo will be speaking at a series of events in Ottawa during Gender Equality Week about their first-hand experience as gold miners and women leaders in the conflict-affected country.

Kahambu Vaherenie and Moza Zawadi are artisanal gold miners in a remote community in Congo’s north-eastern Ituri Province, paving the way for increased gender equality and women’s rights in the artisanal mining sector. Their visit to Canada is hosted by Canadian non-profit IMPACT.

Lucapa introduced new marketing channels

Lucapa Diamond provides an update on diamond sales from the Lulo alluvial diamond mine in Angola.

As previously advised, Lucapa has been supporting its Angolan Government partners as Angola establishes the technical regulations for the recently-gazetted diamond marketing policy being introduced as part of the Government’s diamond sector reforms.

As part of these discussions, Lulo alluvial mining company, Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo, is preparing to sell certain select large premium-value diamonds in what will be the first Lulo production to be sold through the new marketing channels.

Petra endeavors to replace Johan Dippenaar!

Binding Heads of Agreement reached post Year end with regards to the disposal of the Company's interest in the KEM JV to Petra's joint venture partner Ekapa Mining Pty Ltd. As noted in the FY 2018 Trading Update, the Nomination Committee is currently in year two of its three year succession plan and is continuing to review its Board, board committee and senior management structures.

Good progress is being made with plans to make additional changes in FY 2019 in order to ensure the Company has the right mix of expertise and skills. New non-executive appointments are currently being confirmed with a view to making an announcement in this regard in October 2018.

Competition Commission approves acquisition

SA Competition Commission makes recommendation to the Tribunal that the Lonmin acquisition be approved subject to agreed conditions

Sibanye-Stillwater and Lonmin Plc noted that the South African Competition Commission has recommended that the South African Competition Tribunal approves the proposed acquisition of Lonmin Plc, subject to certain conditions, which are agreeable to both Sibanye-Stillwater and the Commission. The Tribunal is the regulatory body which provides final approval for large mergers in South Africa.
