India KP Chair: KP Intersessional meeting concludes successfully

India, as the KP Chair for 2019, successfully hosted the KP Intersessional meeting in Mumbai. The meeting which started on 17thJune concluded today, 21st June 2019. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) Intersessional Meeting 2019 is an annual mid-year event of KPCS – a tri-partite mechanism that unites participating governments, diamond industry and civil society. KPCS is an international mechanism mandated by UN to reduce the flow of conflict diamonds which were being used to finance wars against legitimate governments.

 

Mr. Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi, KP Chair and Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) hosted and addressed over 200KP delegates from 82 countries including the US, Russian Federation, European Union, Canada, China, Israel, Australia, UAE, and several producing countries from Africa– Sierra Leone, DR Congo, Angola, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Central African Republic, Botswana, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Namibia, South Africa, Togo& Lesotho. The Kimberley Process Chairmanship 2019 India event was organized by the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India; and co-organised by Gem &Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond mining company, ranked fourth globally and first in Russia among mining companies by total shareholder return (TSR) in the 2019 Value Creators report, a ranking compiled by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). TSR is a key metric that shows the return to a company's shareholder, combining share price movements and dividends paid.

 

The 2019 Value Creators ranking covers companies whose capitalisation exceeds USD 3.5 bn. According to the BCG analysts, Alrosa delivered an average TSR of 29.9% over the five years from 2014 through 2018, well above the industry’s median of 3.1%.

ICA announces International Poster Competition, October 2019 with the main theme of the coming poster competition will be “Gemstone-a genuine treasure to hold on to” In the light of this concept ICA invite graphics designers worldwide to design a poster (or posters) which include a design of a piece of any kind of jewelry adorned with colored gemstones. The prizes will be sent to the winning designer after the conclusion of the ICA Congress in Bangkok.

 

The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) will have its biannual congress in Bangkok Thailand on October 12-15, 2019. This is the third time that Bangkok is hosting ICA congress since ICA foundation in 1984. Previous congresses were events to remember. During the years of its inception, ICA has become one of the international leading jewelry and gemstone trade organizations.

Ghana becomes new Member of WorldSkills

“It is with a great pleasure that we announce Ghana as the 81st Member of WorldSkills International. Ghana was one of six countries to take part in the first WorldSkills Africa Competition in Kigali last year, winning five medals in the Rwandan capital, including gold for Cooking and silver in Hairdressing and Electrical Wiring.

 

It was introduced to the WorldSkills movement following a UNESCO conference in China and confirmed its intention to join after visiting WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017” said WorldSkills International officially. Ghana joins in time for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 and will also be taking part in its first General Assembly in Russia. It becomes the seventh African country to join WorldSkills and the first from West Africa.

“Even a single conflict diamond is one too many. India will play an active role in the evolution and transformation of the Kimberley Process, in the transition from conflict diamonds to peace diamonds. The 4Cs (Cut, Clarity, Colour & Carat) of diamond may soon be expanded to 5Cs with the 5th C being ‘Conflict-free’. And the 5Ps of diamond marketing (Precious, Popular, Prestige, Priceless) will include ‘Peace’ diamonds”.

 

This was stated by Director General, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Shri Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi, at the opening session of the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2019, in Mumbai on June 17, 2019. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) Intersessional Meeting 2019 is an annual mid-year event of KPCS, which unites administrations, civil societies and diamond industry in reducing the flow of conflict diamonds used to finance wars against governments around the world.

24.98 carat diamond sold for US$190K

24.98 carat diamond sold for US$190K

BlueRock Diamonds PLC, diamond producer which owns and operates the Kareevlei Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of South Africa have sold the 24.98 carat diamond, recovered earlier this month. The Diamond achieved an auction price of US$190,000.

 

Mike Houston, Executive Chairman commented, “We are delighted with the sale of our largest diamond to date, a 24.98 carat gem quality stone, which showcases the potential of Kareevlei. We continue to make excellent progress implementing our development strategy to increase production and are clearly seeing the impact of higher throughput being achieved reflected in the number of high value stones we continue to produce.

Jupiter Gold Corporation Advances Serrita

Jupiter Gold Corporation has received the Exploration Permit from the local mining department for each of the three mineral rights that encompass its Serrita Project for gold. The Serrita Project covers 13,730 acres and is located in the state of Pernambuco, in the northeastern part of Brazil. Jupiter Gold owns 100% of the Serrita Project.

 

The Serrita gold district is an area known to host narrow high-grade gold mineralized quartz veins. The Brazilian government-funded CPRM (Mineral Resources Research Company) researched this province extensively and confirmed gold mineralization in certain areas within the province. Other companies that drilled in such district have reported results as high as 56 g/t Au from channel sampling of gold-bearing quartz veins exposed in old settler workings.
