All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) Chairman Mr Anantha Padmanabhan urges entire gems and jewellery industry to remain calm in the troubled times for the industry, commenting at 8th edition of GJC Nite, one of India’s largest gems and jewellery networking and fashion extravaganza. Mr Padmanabhan further said, “We are on the right path, will urge the industry to stay calm and promise that we will see better days very soon and better future.”

Jeweller India Ring recorded in Guinness!

Prince Bhandari, a Mumbai-based jeweller, has set a new Guinness World Record for the 'Most Diamonds Set in One Ring' in 2019. Recreating the stunning Lotus Temple in Delhi, in two-tone 18K white and rose gold, the ring is studded with an astounding 7,777 pieces of round, brilliant-cut natural diamonds of EF colour with VVS/VS clarity, as certified by IGI, Mumbai.

 

The ‘Lotus Temple Ring’ was conceptualised and designed by Bhandari, founder of Lakshikaa Jewels. The Lotus Temple is an architectural wonder, in the shape of a closed lotus with 27 marble-clad petals. Casting the Ring in diamonds required keeping the ratio of each lotus petal to be the same, with perfect angles and symmetry.

The Ministry of Commerce by the Department of International Trade Promotion is ready to hold the 64th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair under the theme of, Thailand’s Magic Hands: The Spirit of Jewelry Making,  where the nation’s best gems and jewelry product will take the spotlight, showing the unique precious traditions blended with modern craftsmanship. This event also aims to promote Thailand as one of the key hubs for gems and jewelry trading and manufacturing in the world.

 

Mrs. Vannaporn Ketudat, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Trade Promotion, reveals that the gems and jewelry industry in Thailand has been key to the country’s economy for several decades, creating jobs, generating added value, and elevating creative ideas from up-and-coming designers. From January to June of 2019, export of gems and jewelry products worth a total of 7,245.63 million US dollars which grew 15.20% compared to the same period last year, although the industry has been affected by the global economic situation and trade war from the main trading partner countries.

IIJS 2019 pushes vibrant season ahead!

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) presented the 36th edition of the world’s foremost & prestigious gem & jewellery trade show-India International Jewellery Show, IIJS Premiere 2019 was held in the City from 9th to 12th August 2019 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon-Mumbai. The concluded show blown a breezy freshness amid trade exhibitors & visitor fraternity!

 

It is true that the show had been opened up with several challenges especially to push a sale further or to offer any product mix for the season ahead! Equal sentiment was learned amid buyer fraternity! Yet, it is being learned that the show attained a bench mark in inquiry, acceptance of innovative design, light weight collection and bridal jewellery too! Overall the show provided a zephyr, a fresh wind to vibrate the market during the season at latch!

Lab Grown Diamond and Jewellery Promotion Council (LGDJPC) concluded the debut show of LDJS (International Labgrown Diamond Jewellery Show), the B2B expo,spread over 40,000 square feet in a world class air conditioned dome- Shaila Lawn, Near Mahananda Dairy, Opposite NESCO, Goregaon, Mumbai.

 

The debut show accommodated 70+ exhibitors who showcased a whole of the LGD range& they met a demand of product mix that was brought by visitors, traders & buyers! Accordingly the show hosted about 35,000 trade visitors, buyer & trade fraternity, who wished to cater their clientele and to foray the season ahead also visited the LDJS 2019 during the August 9 & up to 12, 2019.

One of the highlights of the IIJS 2019 is the Craft Pavilion by Gems and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the nodal body for skill development of the Indian Gems & Jewellery industry under the National Skill Development Council (NSDC).

 

India’s traditional Jewellery art forms like Thewa, Gajra, Bindri, Tarakasi, etc, are among the few jewellery forms which today have just a handful of artists left making these jewellery designs for generations. Craft Pavilion has received a tremendous response which also demonstrates these rare skills live.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)through its CSR initiative ‘Jewellers for Hope’ charity dinner raised funds to donate the proceeds towards Indian Army Welfare, Tribal Integrated Development & Education Trust (TIDE) and Shrimad Rajchandra Love & Care (SRLC), held on 8th August, Mumbai.

Gemmological Institute of India (GII) has organized a one and a half  day international symposium on the Advances in Gem & Diamond Detection Technology-2019 (AGDDT-2019) during August 7&8, 2019.The symposium was organized to provide a forum for exchanging ideas among scientists, technologists, trades and members of testing laboratories.

 

About 150 members from different backgrounds but connected to Gem and Diamonds actively participated in the deliberations on both the days. Internationally renowned experts from USA, China, Thailand, Switzerland and Belgium participated and gave a world view of the contemporary issues dealing with scientific aspects of diamonds and coloured gem stones.

For World Elephant Day 2019, Forevermark, the diamond brand from De Beers Group, is excited to unveil a compelling six-part short film series revealing the epic journey of one of the world’s keystone species as they embark on one of the largest and longest translocations ever undertaken in South Africa. 

 

In 2018, De Beers Group announced that it was commencing a major conservation initiative titled Moving Giants that would see around 200 elephants translocated from its Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve (VLNR) in South Africa to a national park in Mozambique co-managed by NGO Peace Parks Foundation and the Mozambique government.

There were 7 Central Government Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and 12 State/Private Sector SEZs prior to the enactment of the SEZ Act, 2005.  In addition, 416 proposals for setting up of SEZs in the country have been accorded formal approval under the SEZ Act, 2005.  Presently, 351 SEZs are notified, out of which 232 SEZs are operational.  States/Union Territories-wise details of SEZs is at Annexure-I.

 

SEZs being set up under the SEZ Act, 2005 and SEZ Rule, 2006 are primarily private investment driven. As per the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) may be established either jointly or severally by the Central Government, State Governments or any person for manufacture of goods or rendering services or for both or as a Free Trade and Warehousing Zone.
