TGJTA to Host Inaugural Thailand Gems & Jewelry Fair 2017

Bangkok: The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) says the inaugural Thailand Gems & Jewelry Fair 2017 will take place from June 15 to 18 at Challenger 1, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.

“We are certain to see a bigger and better fair than our previous editions this coming June," said Suttipong Damrongsakul, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA). "The feedback from Thai and international exhibitors, as well as support from visitors has been extraordinary. The fair will also enable a more vibrant and dynamic environment in gems and jewelry trading.”

The TGJTA was established with the aim of supporting and promoting Thailand’s gem and jewelry industry. For over 40 years, the TGJTA has served the needs of its members in the Thai gems and jewelry trade, from SMEs to large businesses involved in every aspect of the industry, including raw material, design, manufacture, manufacturing equipment and innovation, the organizers said.

The industry is ranked third in the country in terms of export value, generating $12.3 billion worth of exports in January to October of this year. The TGJTA said it is also initiating the promotion of gems and jewelry sales alongside tourism to encourage tourists to buy gems and jewelry as souvenirs.

The TGJTA said it supports the development of the Thai gems and jewelry industry, from training for craftsmen to removing barriers on the import of rough stones and other raw materials. This year, the TGJTA has received Thai government support to exempt customs duty on imports of silver and gold coils under 18K. This is the result of the TGJTA’s efforts to lobby for new measures to increase the competitive advantage for the Thai gems and jewelry industry on global markets. The TGJTA has also established alliances with various gems and jewelry associations worldwide.

The Thailand Gems & Jewelry Fair 2017 will offer Thai gems and jewelry – from rare, high-quality color stones to exquisitely crafted gold and silver jewelry in various prices and styles.

The fair will be open to Thai and international companies, as well as the general public. It will be held over an area of 20,000 sq meters, and host 1,000 companies from all over the world. The organizers expect more than 30,000 visitors to participate in the event.
