Multi Super-specialty Kiran Hospital in Surat

Surat: Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated the Kiran Multi Super Speciality Hospital and Research Centre set up by the Samast Patidar Arogya Trust in the heart of the diamond district of Katargam, Surat. The Trust has been founded by leading members of the diamond industry and also has industrialists, entrepreneurs, academicians and professionals as its members.

The state-of-the-art hospital will provide services both to needy and well off patients, and has nearly 550 beds at present with provision to expand to 750 in the future. The 13 storey building stands on a 3.5 acre plot and covers 10 lakh sq ft of built up area. It is Surat’s tallest building and will cater to nearly 15,000 visitors per day.

There are 33 medical departments, 11 emergency wards and 28 Operation Theatres, plus a fully equipped ICU with a 115 bed capacity. A helipad on the terrace will enable air ambulances to rush critically ill patients directly for treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Modi appreciated the donors for their generosity, and said that the government too was also committed to make medical services more affordable so that they could be accessible to all. He spoke about the initiatives to cap the prices of specialised equipment like stents and to promote generic medicines. A clean and well maintained hospital would also be an important part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which is committed to creating a healthier India, he said.
