Zimbabwe to Expand Diamond Exploration Activity

Harare: The Zimbabwe government owned diamond company Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has announced that it plans to expand its diamond exploration activity to other parts of Manicaland in the Mutasa and Mutambara districts, according to reports in the local media, quoting a notice on the company’s website.

In the first phase, the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) has been contracted to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment for the two districts, the reports stated. ZCDC is already mining alluvial diamonds at Chiadzwa in the Manicaland Province.

The company also announced its intentions to explore for diamonds "in Mutambara and Martin Forest Land in Chimanimani district", it was reported and called “all interested and affected stakeholders to submit their views, concerns and comments on the above-mentioned projects."

The deadlines for responses on the Penhalonga diamond exploration project and for the Chimanimani exploration project have been given as March 23 and March 30, 2017, respectively.
