IGC 2019 scheduled

The International Gemmological Conference, IGC2019 will take place in the beautiful city of Nantes (France), with probably about 100 attendees expected. Prof. Emmanuel Fritsch, Conference chair said: “We hope that will make this 36th edition of IGC a great success. Our goal is to gather in Nantes (France) from 27-31 August 2019, the most renowned international experts together with students and researchers who share interest in gems and Jewerly.”

According to the announcement, a broad range of topics will be covered, including, but not limited to: 1) Synthetic and natural diamonds, 2) Color stones and pearls, 3) Gem treatments, 4) localities, geology and genesis of gemstones & 5) physics and chemistry of gem materials.

The Conference will consist in 5 days of oral and poster presentations, starting on Tuesday 27 August and ending on Saturday 31 August. Tuesday August 27th “we organize an open colloquium at the same venue, featuring IGC speakers, and providing an opportunity for French gemologists who cannot attend the IGC to benefit from its venue in Nantes” said Fritsch.

A pre-conference excursion from August 24 to 26: the megalithic treasures of Brittany and a freshwater mussels farm. A post-conference excursion from September 1 to 4 September: Hidden Paris, exploring little known private and public collections of gems and jewelry, including the historical 9 ct pink Grand Condé diamond in Chantilly.

The International Gemmological Conference (IGC) owes much of its origin to BIBOA (Bureau International pour laBijouterie, Orfèvrene, Argenterie), the International Jewellery and Gemstone Federation, the first Congress of which in 1926 recommended and defined use of the term cultured pearl.

Experts from various European gem testing laboratories were invited to attend a series of expert meetings that aimed to formulate the policies of BIBOA.
