WorldSkills Flag Relay begins its Russian stage!

The Russian leg of the WorldSkills flag Relay kicked off on 8 August in Yuzhnosakhalinsk at the opening ceremony of the 6th WorldSkills Russia National Competition. The ceremony was attended by the honorary guests, among them Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Irina Potekhina, Director General of the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union, Robert Urazov, Governor of Sakhalin Oblast, Oleg Kozhemyako, and First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Andrey Pominov.

 

The Flag Relay started last year when the WorldSkills Flag was handed to Kazan, the next WorldSkills host city, on 20 October during the Closing Ceremony of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. After that, it was delivered to Sochi where the Flag Relay project officially kicked off. It was then launched into space and kept on board the International Space Station for more than two months, before returning at the end of February.

 

After the ceremony in Madrid the Flag started its journey to all 20 countries that have ever taken part in the WorldSkills Competitions. It travelled to Germany, Netherlands, USA, Korea Republic, UAE, Portugal, Finland, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Italy, Belgium, United Kingdom, Austria, Brazil, and Japan. The flag arrived to Russia from Chinese Taipei where it was welcomed at the 48th edition of the National Competition. In every country, patches from previous competitions were added to the flag.

 

The Russian leg of the Relay will be held as part of the corporate and field competitions. The flag will visit all regions of leading industries and major enterprises of the Russian Federation and then will finish its travel in Tatarstan. The opening ceremony of the 45th WorldSkills Competition 2019 in Kazan will be the last stop of the Relay.

 

WorldSkillsKazan 2019 Competition will be held on 22-27 August 2019. Kazan was granted the right to host the 45th WorldSkills Competition after winning a vote by the WSI General Assembly in Sao Paulo (BRA) on August 10, 2015.

 

WorldSkills Kazan 2019 would host more than 1,500 Competitors of under 22, in some skills – under 25 years old from over 60 countries, about 2,000 Experts, more than 50 Skills, 2,000 Volunteers, 250,000 visitors, about 1,000 media representatives, up to 5,000 Participants and Experts from all over the world will participate in the Business Programme of the Competition.
