Christie’s NY auction on April 17

Magnificent Jewels auction will be led by a Fancy

Intense Pink Diamond ring weighing 8.42 carats

Christie’s New York announces the April 17 auction of Magnificent Jewels. The sale will offer a selection of more than 200 lots, with estimates ranging from $4,000 to $4,000,000.

The auction will be led by a Fancy Intense Pink Diamond ring weighing 8.42 carats & is estimate to fetch about $4mn to 6mn. Set with a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut fancy intense pink diamond, flanked on either side by a tapered baguette-cut diamond, ring size 6, mounted in platinum and rose gold.

Accompanied by report no. 5161289963 dated 7 March 2018 from the GIA Gemological Institute of America stating that the diamond is fancy intense pink, natural color, VVS1 clarity; also accompanied by a working diagram indicating that the clarity of the diamond is potentially Internally Flawless!

Highlights include an impressive selection of colored diamonds, diamonds and gemstones, along with significant signed period and modern jewels by Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, JAR, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co, and Van Cleef & Arpels. Highlights include five important blue diamond rings from esteemed private collections. Two notable jewels by JAR include an Oval-Cut Diamond.

‘Thread’ Ring of 22.76 carats and a Multi-Gem and Diamond ‘Moghul’ Pendant Brooch, being sold to benefit the Art for Justice Fund. The first of the two privately consigned JAR jewels offered at Christie’s, the ‘thread’ ring, is set with an elongated, oval-cut diamond weighing approximately 22.76 carats that is D colour, VVS1 clarity and Type IIa. The stone sits within a diamond-set two-tiered thread work gallery and hoop, mounted in platinum.

‘JAR is well-known for the complexity and intricacy of his “thread” designs,’ Lingon explains. ‘The fine pavé work beautifully showcases the stone, which is itself extraordinary in size, colour and quality. The mounting holds the diamond securely, but there’s also a certain lightness to it. The designer’s ability to create this sense of balance is quite a feat.’

Previously, the piece was a highlight of the 2006 Magnificent Jewels  sale at Christie’s in New York. Offered from The Collection of Ellen Barkin, it achieved $1,808,000 —well over its high estimate of $1,200,000.

Noteworthy private collections are led by the Collection of Rita Crocker Clements. Both the live and online sale will be publicly previewed in Christie’s 20 Rockefeller Center Galleries, starting Friday, April 13th  - Monday, April 16th.
