Period & Vintage Jewels at Sotheby’s hammer!
Kicking off during New York Fashion Week this September, Sotheby’s is partnering with high fashion retailer Dover Street Market to showcase a special selection of the auction house’s upcoming Fine Jewels sale (New York, 25 September 2019) within their cutting-edge New York and Los Angeles locations.
Curated by Dover Street Market, the selection will juxtapose period and vintage jewels within a fresh and contemporary setting designed by Rei Kawakubo. The jewels will be on display in Dover Street Market’s New York store from 6 – 8 September, and in their Los Angeles outpost from 13 – 15 September. Works by collage artist Sammy Slabbinck have been commissioned by Dover Street Market to be presented alongside the jewels and further enhance the viewing experience.
This curation marks the second collaboration between the two brands, who joined forces initially in London in December 2018 to mix modernity with heritage by bringing a selection of jewels to the Haymarket Dover Street Market store.
James Gilchrist, Vice President of Comme des Garcons North America & Dover Street Market North America, said: “We are so excited to partner with Sotheby’s again following their incredible installation in London last year. Dover Street Market New York and LA are so privileged to showcase this one of a kind selection of both period and traditional jewels. It’s something very new for us to have jewelry like this in our US stores and it undoubtedly will resonate well with our clients.”
Frank Everett, Sales Director of Sotheby’s Luxury Division, commented: “We are thrilled to collaborate again with Dover Street Market to bring a selection of jewels to their fabulous stores in New York and Los Angeles this September. Our partnership in London demonstrated how vintage, period and signed jewels pair so well with contemporary fashions, owing to their exceptional craftsmanship, unique materials, signature designs and – above all – their inimitable style. These pieces are truly timeless – forever chic and wearable – and it’s such a joy to share them with the DSM crowd, who can carry them forward into the next fashionable generation.”
