KPCS Plenary inaugurated!
The
Plenary meeting of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is being
hosted by India, the present Kimberley Process (KP) Chair, from 18th to 22nd
November, 2019 in New Delhi. The Plenary meeting was inaugurated by Commerce
Secretary, Dr. Anup Wadhawan. Speaking on this occasion Commerce Secretary said
that India, as a founding member of KP, has been actively involved in the
development of KP as an important protocol in trade of diamonds which has
ensured that 99.8% of the diamonds in the world are conflict free.
WDC urges for the important KP reforms
Speaking
directly to government representatives at the start of the 2019 Kimberley
Process (KP) Plenary Meeting in New Delhi, India, on November 18, Stephane
Fischler, President of the World Diamond Council (WDC), has stated that, with
the KP’s three-year reform and review cycle about to end, the governments alone
hold the future of the Kimberley Process’ much anticipated reform agenda in
their hands.
CIBJO Congress opens in Bahrain!
The
2019 CIBJO Congress has opened in Bahrain, with a call on the jewellery
industry by CIBJO President Gaetano to take action on climate change, which he
said was not an issue specific to the sector, but it is the “most important
story of our time.”
“There
is a tendency, when faced by a challenge of this magnitude, to feel that we as
individuals are helpless,” Dr. Cavalieri continued. “But if each of us does
nothing, the march towards inevitable environmental catastrophe will continue.
However, if each of us acts, and then that is multiplied over and over and
over, company by company, industry by industry, it may be possible to stave off
disaster. It is the least we can do.”
Invaluable cooperation between WFDB and CIBJO
World
Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) President Ernie Blom has praised the close
working relationship between the WFDB and CIBJO, the World Jewellery
Confederation, at the opening of the 2019 CIBJO Congress which started today in
Bahrain. The unity allows the diamond and jewelry industry to provide a unified
response in the face of global challenges, he told the international gathering.

Rough diamond auction in the US
Alrosa
announces the results of the auction for special size rough diamonds (weighing
over 10.8 carats) held in New York. Reviews of rough diamonds took place at the
company’s trade representative office Alrosa USA Inc.
The
company sold 93 rough diamonds with a total weight of 1,560 carats, and earned
$11 million in sales revenue. This is the best result of the last few months.
There were 95 participants from the US, Belgium, India, Israel, UAE, Russia and
Hong Kong.
Rough diamond tender from 6th of December

DMCC publishes diamond guideline in Arabic
DMCC
– the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority on
commodities trade and enterprise – released the approved Arabic translation of
the ‘Diamond Terminology Guideline’. The guideline sets a universal standard
for the diamond and jewellery trade when communicating about diamonds and
laboratory-grown diamonds. The guideline provides clear and accessible
terminology to eliminate confusion among industry bodies, organisations and
traders around the origins of a specific stone.
Previously
available in nine languages, DMCC was commissioned to translate the guideline
into Arabic, ensuring unity in diamond terminology across Arabic-speaking
countries.
GCIR gold production increased by 24% in Q3
China
Gold International Resources Corp Ltd (GCIR) reports on the Company’s financial
and operational results for the three months (Q3) and nine months (9M) ended
September 30, 2019. According to selected production and financial highlights
of Q3 2019 compared to q3 2018 says, revenue increased by 17% to US$186.4
million from US$158.8 million for the same period in 2018.
Mine
operating earnings decreased by 25% to US$26.3 million from US$35.1 million for
the same period in 2018. Net loss after tax decreased from US$4.6 million for
the 2018 period to US$0.3 million for the same period in 2019. Total gold
production increased by 24% to 63,113 ounces from 50,860 ounces for the same
period in 2018.
