CIBJO Congress 2019 concludes

The 2019 CIBJO Congress has concluded in Bahrain, with the World Jewellery Confederation’s Board of Directors voting to establish a series of new committees, among them one that will be dedicated to establishing operating practices that are specific to the laboratory-grown diamond trade, and another which will focus on the long-term impacts of new technologies on the jewellery, gemstone and precious metals sectors.

The Kimberley Process Plenary Meet commenced at the national capital, New Delhi for the five-day meet which ends on Friday, November 22, 2019.

European CN codes for synthetic diamonds

AWDC said, The European Commission has published the European Combined Nomenclature for precious stones, which introduces new customs codes for synthetic diamonds.

Currently, the same customs code is used for all synthetic precious stones (including synthetic diamond). What will change as of next year is that a distinction is made in customs codes for synthetic diamonds on the one hand and other synthetic precious stones on the other hand. One will thus have to use the correct code depending on the imported/exported good.

CIBJO Congress opening witnessed Bahrain pearl legacy

The 2019 CIBJO Congress kicked off at Bahrain, on November 18 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa who is the country’s Prime Minister. The three-day conference opened to a packed hall and heard about Bahrain’s historic pearl industry.

The guests of honour at the opening included HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister; and Chairman of Mumtalakat, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund which owns the congress host, DANAT; HE Jawad Al Arayedh, Deputy Prime Minister; HE Wael Al Mubarak, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs; HE Shaikh Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Director General, Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister.

Yamana Gold announces discovery of new high-grade Naty Zone at Cerro Moro and significant high-grade results from new exploration drilling while extending exploration program to broader Cerro Moro mine in Argentina, all of which show significant high-grade intersections in an entirely new zone and extensions of previously identified zones.  

These exploration results demonstrate a growing mineral resource base in new areas that are expected to establish Cerro Moro as a long-life, high-quality, high-grade gold and silver operation. According to the exploration details, discovery of a new mineralized zone, drill intercepts are helping to define a significant new mineralized zone along the Naty structure, located 25 kilometres south of the core mine.
