Jewelry Design students at manufacturing facility
To
help students’ gain better understanding and experience of the gem and
jewellery industry, GIA India brought jewellery design students to Kama
Schachter’s manufacturing facility in Mumbai. The GIA Jewelry Design
certificate course – an extensive nine-week programme – helps students develop
creative skills and understand technical processes through practical training.
GIA
India conducts factory visits for its on-campus students for several of its
Jewelry Design courses. During this visit, students had the opportunity to
learn about the jewellery manufacturing process; from designing a jewellery
piece and sending it to a CAD expert, to the final quality check.
HK Exports hosted 5th Edition of Marathon
Hari
Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd. India’s leading manufacturer of cut and polished
diamonds hosted Kisna Diamond Marathon on 22nd December 2019 at BKC, Mumbai.
The aim of this event was to promote the noble cause of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. With
its 5th edition of marathon, the company successfully registered more than
8,000 runners.
The
chief guests present at the marathon were Mr. Shri Ujjwal Nikkam- Public
Prosecutor, Shri Madhukar Pandey- Joint Commissioner (Traffic), Shri Kapil
Arora- Marathon Runner & Author, Mrs. Manisha Gupta- CNBC Awaaz Editor.

GST Revenue Trends at 38th meeting
The
38th meeting of the GST Council met under the Chairmanship of the Union
Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman here
today. The meeting was also attended by the Union Minister of State for Finance
& Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Thakur besides Finance Ministers of States
& UTs and senior officers of Ministry of Finance.
A
presentation was made to the 38thGST Council on the issue of revenue, GST rate
structure and compensation needs of the States. Before the presentation, the
Convenor of GoM on revenue augmentation Sh. Sushil Kumar Modi, Dy CM (Bihar)
made opening remarks about the revenue position and future roadmap. The
presentation made thereafter was based on discussions in the Committee of
officers of State and Centre on revenue augmentation.
Long-term reauthorization of EXIM
President
Donald J. Trump signed legislation today that reauthorized the Export-Import
Bank of the United States (EXIM) for a historic length of seven years. The
bipartisan legislation approved by Congress achieved two important goals:
providing certainty to American businesses and workers that EXIM is fully open
for business, and giving clear direction to focus on the economic and national
security challenges from China.
“I
thank President Trump for making history today by signing into law the longest
reauthorization of EXIM in the agency’s 85-year history,” said EXIM President
and Chairman Kimberly A. Reed.
Alrosa at environmental transparency rating
Alrosa
entered the top 10 of annual Environmental Transparency Rating among mining
& metals companies of Russia. WWF Russia initiated this Rating with the
support of the European Union and UN Environment Programme. The Rating
evaluates environmental management as well as the company’s environmental
impact and level of disclosures. Alrosa was highlighted for active cooperation
during the Rating calculation.
In
2019, the Rating became a part of the WWF-EU project "People for
Nature". The main objectives of the research are to increase the corporate
responsibility of mining and metals companies and to create effective
engagement mechanisms for the industry with stakeholders.

City in January.

M-SCREEN 4.0 automatically screens up!
The
start of a new year is a good time to look back at the highlights of the
previous year. Laboratory grown diamonds (LGD) are still an issue for our
industry and HRD is continued to fight against their mis-sorting. To help, they
have launched some innovative instruments, including our J-SCREEN, a desktop
device for screening and detecting both loose diamonds and diamond jewellery,
and our M-SCREEN 4.0, which automatically screens up to 15,000 melee diamonds
per hour.

USD 75bn

Update 2: The Indian gem and jewellery sector is the global hub of jewellery
and contributes to around 7% of the country’s GDP and 15% to India’s total merchandise
exports. Appreciating the work being done in the sector Commerce and Industry
& Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal urged those in this sector to now achieve
the target of USD 75 billion from 40 billion much faster. He was speaking on
the occasion of the 46th India Gem & Jewellery awards 2019 held in New
Delhi on 18 December 2019.
