Diamond Production likely to slide by 4%
According
to the ninth annual report on the global diamond industry, between 2010 and
2016, global production was consistently between 120 million and 130 million
carats. In 2017, it jumped to roughly 152 million carats and then fell 3% to
147 million carats the following year. The decrease in 2018 is largely
attributed to lower production in Australia, the Democratic Republic of the
Congo and Russia.
The unexpected
closure of Mir in Russia and planned downscaling at Argyle in Australia
contributed to the decline. The 26 million–carat production increase in 2017
was the largest single-year volume increase since 1986, and it created a
surplus that affected the entire value chain.
Tariff Angola exempts raw minerals export
The
revised Customs Tariff, which comes into force on 29 December this year, has
eliminated the export rate of raw minerals, previously set at five percent.
The
document also provides for the exemption of goods imported under private
investment projects and the extension of exemptions for humanitarian goods
imported by churches and non-governmental organizations. According to a note
from the General Tax Administration (AGT), which Angop had access today the
review is in line with the entry into force of the SADC and African Union free
trade zones.
Peruvian Customs retain gold exports from December
Dynacor
Gold Mines, a leading ore purchasing and processing corporation servicing
artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM) in Peru, reports that the Peruvian
customs authorities are retaining shipments of December gold exports for
control procedures. Authorities have retained exports and requested from at
least three gold exporting companies, including Dynacor, to submit supporting
documents relating to their gold production.
Management
expects the review to be favourable and its exports of gold to immediately
resume upon clearance from the authorities. Notwithstanding the current
situation, the Corporation has continued to operate normally; however, it
doesn't anticipate generating any income from exports of gold in December.

Worldwide Holiday Sales Increase at Tiffany
Tiffany
& Co presented its preliminary sales results for the interim period from
November 1, 2019 through December 24, 2019. Worldwide (unaudited) net sales for
the 2019 interim holiday period increased approximately 1 - 3% as compared to
the same period in 2018.
Alessandro
Bogliolo, Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are pleased to present our interim
sales results for this important season, which reflect improved global trends
compared to previous quarters this year. During this period, we continued to
see the Chinese Mainland drive our overall sales growth with a strong
double-digit increase, offset by the persisting declines in the Hong Kong
market and, to a lesser degree, Japan - which we believe, continues to be
negatively impacted by the recent increase in the consumption tax. We are happy
to see sales growth in the Americas, a momentum shift in the region.”
