GIA Offers $2 million in Scholarships for 2020

A scholarship from GIA (Gemological Institute of America) can help with the cost of the Institute’s industry-leading and globally-recognized diploma and certificate programs. Applications are now available for scholarships for professionals and students interested in gemology and jewelry manufacturing arts programs, distance education courses and lab classes related to gems and jewelry.

 

Anna Doll, GIA Graduate Gemologist, Applied Jewelry Professional and scholarship recipient, said, “The GIA scholarship made a huge impact in my life. I would not have been able to be here without it.”

Recently, saw an illustrious jury comprising experts from across the fashion, jewellery and design industry come together for the final jury round of the Artisan Jewellery Awards 2020 organized by Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at Soho House in Mumbai.

 

The jury featured renowned names such as Aparna Badlani, Co-Founder at Atosa, Ambika Anand – Fashion consultant & TV Anchor, Neha Dani, Fine Jewellery Designer, Anna Martin, Board President and Executive Committee member of GIA, Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director of GIA India & Middle East and Smriti Bohra – Creative director at Jewels Emporium.

Gem Diamonds recovers 183 carat diamond

Gem Diamonds Limited announced the recovery of an exceptional 183 carat white Type IIa diamond on 3 February 2020.  On the same day, the Company also recovered two different high quality diamonds, one of 89 carats and the other of 70 carats, from the Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.

 

The Group owns the Letšeng Diamond mine in Lesotho and the Ghaghoo mine in Botswana, with Head Offices in the United Kingdom and Sales Marketing and Manufacturing capabilities in Belgium. Letšeng is renowned for its regular production of large, top colour, exceptional white diamonds, making it the highest average dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.

The Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX) has started 2020 strongly, with its flagship Gold Futures product in January recording its best month of trading since July 2008. The product recorded month-on-month (M-O-M) volume growth of 66.25%, and year-on-year (Y-O-Y) volume growth of 515%, as increasing geopolitical tensions across the globe drove investors towards safe-haven assets.

 

The DGCX’s West Texas Intermediary (WTI) Futures also underpinned trading last month, registering M-O-M volume growth of 18.26%.

As part of such lawsuits, court-appointed commissioners yesterday conducted surprise inspections of various locations in the diamond manufacturing centre of Surat where such systems are allegedly being manufactured and/or utilised in violation of Sarine’s patents and copyrights.
