GJEPC Hosts Seminar in Surat on Demonetisation
Surat: The Gem & Jewellery Export
Promotion Council (GJEPC), Gujarat Region, organised a seminar on
‘Demonetisation and Opportunities for G&J Sector’ at Surat yesterday. Over
50 members of the trade were present.
India’s Polished Diamond Exports Dip 10% in Nov
Mumbai: Exports of cut and polished
diamonds from India stood at US$ 1.19 billion in November 2016, a drop of 10%
as compared to the US$ 1.32 bn in the same month a year earlier, according to
provisional data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council
(GJEPC). Exports of gold jewellery (both studded and plain) also slowed,
declining by 35% to US$ 547.5 million during the same period as compared to US$
844.67 mn a year earlier.
Another Magnificent Result at Sotheby’s NY Auction
New York: Last week Sotheby’s auction house
sold $29.7 million worth of jewelry in 2 separate auctions in New York. The
most expensive lot being a diamond ring from the collection of philanthropist
Marjorie S. Fisher. The ring being one of over 300 jewels that were sold at
auction and once belonged to the late Fisher, whereof many pieces have a
distinguished provenance.
Belgian Government Adopts ‘Carat Tax’
Antwerp: The Belgian Parliament has
officially adopted the 'Diamond Regime', commonly known as the 'Carat Tax', as
the new fiscal system for the Antwerp diamond industry.
Blue Diamond Recovered at Merlin Diamond Mine
Perth: Merlin Diamonds recovered a
0.124-carat blue diamond at its mine in Australia, which it claims is the first
stone of that color to be excavated at the site.The recovery occurred during the ramp-up
phase of the Merlin Diamond Project in the country’s northern territory. Albeit
relatively small-sized, the discovery still shows the potential for discovering
valuable colored diamonds from the mine, the company said.

HRD Antwerp Opens 1st Centre of Excellence in China
Shanghai: HRD Antwerp today opened its
first Centre of Excellence branch in Shanghai, China. The opening took place in
