few days from now, many of you, my colleagues and friends in the diamond and

Covid-19 threatens $32tn of Asia corporate debt
According
to the estimated by CER, The coronavirus outbreak is threatening to force
companies across the Asia-Pacific region to default after years of low interest
rates prompted many to gorge on trillions of dollars of debt, media reports.
In
the years following the global financial crisis to 2019, the volume of
outstanding corporate debt issued by companies in the region doubled to $32
trillion, according to Moody’s, a rating agency.
Prospecting Licences to Botswana Diamonds
Botswana
Diamonds (BOD) has awarded six new Prospecting Licences PL 017 -18 of 2020 and
PL 066 – 069 of 2020 to Sunland Minerals (Pty) Ltd-a wholly-owned subsidiary of
BOD. The licence tenure is for a period
of three years until 31 March 2023. The licences cover an area of 4,319 square
kilometres in the Central and Kgalagadi Districts, colloquially known as the
Kalahari.
Lockdown measures at Lucapa Diamond
Lucapa
Diamond Company Limited notes the recent declaration of a National State of
Emergency by the President of the Republic of Angola, His Excellency Joao
Lourenco, as one of the measures to prevent and combat the spread of the
coronavirus pandemic.
The
National State of Emergency, which will be in force until 11 April 2020 and may
be renewed, will extend to the entire national territory and is in line with
the World Health Organization recommendations. The lockdown measures outlined
in the Presidential Decree do allow certain industrial activities to continue,
including mining.
Kagem emerald mine suspended operations
The
turmoil stemming from COVID-19 patently represents one of the most serious
challenges faced by many companies globally. Gemfields is no exception and a
significant detrimental impact on its operations, revenues and business is
inevitable during 2020 and possibly beyond.

wellbeing of Gemfields’ employees and communities remains the overriding

mine in Zambia have been suspended for what is hoped to be a period not exceeding

Nimesh Patel leaves DeBeers room!
De
Beers Group announced that Nimesh Patel, Chief Financial Officer, will leave
the business to join Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc as their new Chief Financial
Officer and Executive Director before the end of July.
Nimesh
joined Anglo American in 2012 as Group Head of Corporate Finance before moving
to De Beers Group in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer, joining both the
Executive Committee and Board.
