DPA’s India Campaign to Unveil in IIJS 2017
Mumbai: The first ever generic diamond
promotion campaign in over a decade launched by the Diamond Producers
Association (DPA) in 2016, and the organisation’s plans to drive demand for
diamonds especially among the millennial consumers, occupied centre stage at the
session on Marketing during Day 2 of the GJEPC’s Mines to Market conference in
Mumbai.

EU Draft Law on Minerals from Conflict Areas Approved
The European Parliament approved last
Thursday a EU draft law, which provides for mandatory due diligence evaluation
of companies trading in certain minerals imported from conflict zones or high
risk areas.
CARAT+ Teams with Bond Girl & Rapaport
Antwerp: Organizers of the CARAT+
"Diamond Event" trade show to be held in Antwerp from May 7 - 9 have
announced an agreement with "Bond Girl" Caterina Murino (Casino
Royale, 2006) to be a guest of honor, and has announced an exclusive media
partnership with The Rapaport Group. Murino, playing the sultry Solange
Dimitrios, became the 71st member of one of the most celebrated and exclusive
clubs in movie history, known as "the Bond Girls". She will make,
"a red-carpet entry to the show on the evening of Sunday May 7th."
The Rapaport Group will cover the show through its publications and news
service, both online and in print. RapNet will also provide its Show Listings
tool for the event, enabling buyers to find diamonds and suppliers at CARAT+.
Exhibitors will be able to upload their diamonds in advance or at the show,
making themselves and their diamonds easy to find. For buyers, RapNet Show
Listings is free to search so that diamonds and suppliers can be found ahead of
time.
India’s February Polished Diamond Exports up 3%
Mumbai: India's exports of cut and polished
diamonds recorded at $ 2.41 bn in Feb. 2017 as compared to the US$ 2.34 bn in
the same month in Feb.2016, a rise of 3.27%, according to provisional data
released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Narendra Modi Encourages Industry to Achieve Greater Heights
Mumbai: India’s gem and jewellery industry
must adapt to consumers’ heightened desire for custom-made products in order to
grow the sector, the nation’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi addressed the
international and Indian diamond fraternity through video conferencing from New
Delhi Sunday night.

43rd IGJ Awards (2016) Distributed by GJEPC
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri
Devendra Fadnavis graced the 43rd India Gem & Jewellery Awards (IGJA 2016)
hosted by Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and powered by
GIA to recognise and reward star performers of the Indian gem and jewellery
sector. As GJEPC celebrates its golden jubilee year, a total of 50 nomination
awards and felicitation awards were given away at IGJA 2016. The event hosted
by actors Sakshi Tanwar and Husain. Co-partners for the event were Laxmi
Diamond Pvt. Ltd. & Emerald Jewel Industry India.
Sierra Leone 706-Carat Diamond Unveiled
Freetown: A photograph of the 706-carat
diamond (previously reported as 709-ct.) discovered by a Christian pastor in
Sierra Leone's eastern Kono region has been published on The Republic of Sierra
Leone's State House website. A local chief from Kono handed the stone to
President Ernest Bai Koroma on behalf of Emmanuel Momoh who made the discovery.
The government plans to auction it. An official statement says, “Underscored
the importance of selling such a diamond here as it will clearly give the
owners what is due them and benefit the country as a whole."
Antwerp Diamond Industry to Celebrate 570th Anniversary
Antwerp: The Antwerp diamond industry this
year is celebrating its 570th anniversary. A document recently discovered in
the City Archive identifies the first signs of a diamond trade in the city
dating back to 1447.
