IIDGR Partners with Lukfook Jewellery
Hong Kong: The International Institute of
Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR), part of De Beers Group announced on
Thursday that it has established a polished diamond grading partnership with
Lukfook Jewellery, a leading Hong Kong and Mainland China jewellery retailer.
The grading partnership is De Beers Group’s first with a vertically-integrated
Sightholder.

‘Kashmir-Like' Sapphires Entered Gem Trade

Institute SSEF has analysed a significant number of sapphires from a new
deposit at Bemainty, near the small town of Ambatondrazaka in Madagascar, which
were submitted to us by several reliable independent sources. Bemainty/Ambatondrazaka
is the site of a new gem-rush in Madagascar, which over the past few months has
produced an impressive amount of sapphires, fancy coloured sapphires, and
padparadschas of partly exceptional size and quality (Krzemnicki 2017 in SSEF
Facette www.ssef.ch/research-publications/facette/ and upcoming Journal of
Gemmology, Perkins 2016, Perkins & Pardieu 2016, Pardieu et al. 2017), and
it appears to be a new gem source of greater importance than anything we have
seen in recent years.
Firestone Diamonds Reports Widening of Loss for Half Year
Firestone Diamonds plc almost doubled its
loss for the six months ended December 31 due to a deferred tax charge during
the period of $4.6 million, the company reported. The loss for the period was
$8.8 million compared with $4.6 million for the year-earlier period.
Alrosa Not Interested in Dominion Diamond
Moscow: Russian diamond miner Alrosa is not
interested in buying Canada's Dominion Diamond Corp, Alrosa's Chief Executive
Sergey Ivanov said on Tuesday.Dominion Diamond Corp, the target of an
unsolicited $1.1 billion bid by U.S. billionaire Dennis Washington, said on
Monday it would launch a formal sale process for the company.

the analysis of precious gemstones, has launched its Emerald Paternity Test.
This new technology uses customised DNA-based nanoparticles enabling

Indian G&J Sector is Ready with GST Software
Kolkata: The gems and jewellery trade has almost completed the development of the software needed for GST implementation slated to put into effect from July one this year. “The software development for GST implementation in the gems and jewellery trade is almost complete. Now the jewellers across the country would be educated about the various aspects of the software through webinars,” Nitin Khandelwal, chairman of Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) told reporters here.
GJEPC Makes Presentation at GST State Conclave
New Delhi: A GJEPC delegation led by Chairman Mr. Praveenshankar Pandya made a presentation on GST issues to the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley at the GST conclave organised by the Maharashtra State Government in Mumbai on March 26.
