Petra in Talks with Tanzanian Government
Dar Es Salaam: Petra Diamonds said it is in talks with the Tanzanian government concerning
requirements that the group offer a 30 percent stake in the Williamson diamond
mine to Tanzanian interests as well as list on the Dar es Salaam stock
exchange. The Tanzanian government already owned a 25 percent stake in the
Williamson mine.

Tiffany Loses Appeal on $450M Swatch Ruling
Amsterdam: A Dutch court this week upheld a
2013 ruling ordering Tiffany & Co. to pay Swatch Group $450 million (CHF
402.7 million) in damages from their failed joint watch venture, Tiffany

India’s Gems & Jewellery exports in FY17 rises 9.85% to USD 43,156.21 mn
Mumbai: India’s Exports of Gems and
Jewellery increased 9.85% to USD 43,156.21 mn in FY17 (provisional data in
April 2016 to March 2017) vis-a-vis USD 39,244.29 mn in FY16 (April 2015 to
March 2016). Gross exports of cut and polished diamonds in FY17 increased to
USD 22,783.81 mn witnessed a growth of 10.24% in FY17 as compared to USD
20,667.79 mn in FY16.
Anglo Defends Streamlining of Operations
Gaborone: Anglo American has dismissed
reports that it deviated from the course of action when it decided last year to

Gahcho Kué Prices Lower than Expected
Toronto: Mountain Province’s share of
production from the new Gahcho Kué diamond mine in Canada amounted to 424,830
carats in the first quarter, though the company reported lower sale prices than
anticipated.
