Gemfields short films 2 released!
Under
the Emeralds, the second instalment in Gemfields’ short films project moves
ahead! Following on from the launch of our inaugural video on responsible
sourcing – on World Earth Day, we are excited to introduce the second
instalment in Gemfields’ new film series about responsibly sourced coloured
gemstones. This one is all about the glorious green emerald: the birthstone of
May.
Narrated
and set to music, the film’s focus is on every aspect of emeralds, which are
long associated with new beginnings, hope, peace, fertility and the green
shoots of spring. It looks at how they have been responsibly sourced and guides
the viewer on a journey through their formation half a billion years ago, deep
within the darkness beneath the earth’s surface, “one crystal at a time”.
Mother's Day Gift Guide
This
year, let’s make Mother’s Day extra special. Send a little light, even when you
can’t be there in person. Deliver lab-grown diamonds right to her door, so she
can shine in pink, white, or blue.
Lab-grown
diamonds are diamonds that were grown by scientists in a lab. They share the
same chemical makeup as natural diamonds, and are optically identical. The
biggest differences between natural and lab-created diamonds are how they’re
made, and how rare they are.

A River Runs Through It!
Recently
Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group expressed amid pandemic Covid-19 lockdown!
He said, perhaps it is a result of the global lockdowns, but as I, like you,
have worked to manage through the immediate crisis and plot the course forward,
I have found myself longing for one of my favourite places - Botswana’s
Okavango Delta. The Delta is a place of unparalleled natural beauty, a source
of life and renewal for the world and a welcome reminder for me of better days
ahead.
The
story of the Delta starts far away from Botswana in the highlands of Angola,
where almost all the water that will one day end up in the Delta begins as
rainfall, collecting in lakes and rivers until it joins the Cuito and Cubango
Rivers. The two rivers become one in the south of the country where they form
the famous Okavango River, which carries its water across Namibia and into
Botswana, ultimately bringing the Okavango Delta to life.
Q1 global gold demand remained of 1,083.8t
Global
gold demand held firm at 1,083.8t in Q1 2020, a rise of 1% on the same period
last year, according to the World Gold Council’s latest Gold Demand Trends
report. The global Covid-19 pandemic fuelled safe-haven investment demand for
gold with gold-backed ETFs and it is attracting huge inflows (+298t) to push
global holdings in these products to a record high of 3,185t.
Conversely,
consumer-focused sectors of the market weakened sharply. Jewellery demand was
hit hard by the effects of the outbreak and quarterly demand dropped 39% to a
record low of 325.8t. Q1 inflows into gold-backed ETFs saw a seven-fold
year-on-year increase amid global uncertainty and financial market volatility.
Holdings of gold-backed ETFs reached a record high of 3,185t by the end of Q1.
Spend Mother’s Day with mother!
In a
note Alexandra More said, Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother's
energy in each of us, family, motherhood itself as well as our maternal bonds,
and the influence of mothers in society.
Today more than any other time, embodying those qualities and fostering
a commitment to being caring, positive,
and tender towards ourselves, the people in our lives and our planet will play
an important role in practicing a much healthier and sustainable life.
These
vulnerable times certainly affect our usual plans to spend Mother’s Day with
close to our mother. While the best gift we can give her is our company,
COVID-19 and social distancing will force us to be separate on this special
day. So how can we show mom that we love and appreciate her without being able
to be with her?
