Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days of the year, and buying gold is one
of the most celebrated rituals of this day. As a brand that celebrates the
choices and individuality of the women of today, CaratLane, India's leading
Omni-channel jeweller conducted a study to discover the new-age perceptions,
tastes and preferences of jewellery buyers during Akshaya Tritiya, in India.
While
conversing with Atul Sinha, Sr. VP Marketing, CaratLane, we stumbled upon some
interesting trends from the annual online survey conducted by the brand which
included responses of about 800 women.

Driven
by top prices for important diamonds and superb gemstones, Sotheby’s spring
jewelry auctions concluded today in New York with a combined total of $34
million and a strong 83.3% of all lots sold. The three auctions were led by an
incredibly rare 3.47-carat Fancy Intense Blue Diamond Ring, which sold in
yesterday’s Magnificent Jewels auction for $6.7 million – marking a new world auction record price-per-carat for any
Fancy Intense Blue diamond ($1,920,259 per-carat).

Russian
diamond mining company Alrosa launched its representative office at Bharat
Diamond Bourse, Mumbai, on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
In
the grand opening ceremony, the officials Mr. Anoop Mehta – President, Bharat
Diamond Bourse, Mr. Mehul Shah,– Vice President, Bharat Diamond Bourse, Mr.
Milan Choksi, Convenor, Marketing, GJEPC and Mr. Russell Mehta - Advisor to
Chairman, GJEPC, cut the ribbon, inaugurating Alrosa’s newly acquired Mumbai
office, followed by a media meet held at the launch. Addressing the media were Mr. Evgeny Agureev,
Member of the Executive Committee and Director of the United Selling
Organization of Alrosa & Mr. Jim Vimadalal, Director of the Indian Representative
Office.
CR Chaudhary Inaugurates IGW
GJEPC’s
first edition of India Gemstone Week (IGW) was inaugurated by the Union
Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and
Public Distribution, Shri C R Chaudhary at a glittering ceremony in Pink City.
The
grand event also marked the presence of eminent dignitaries from the GJEPC such
as Mr Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, Mr Dilip Shah, Convener-International
Exhibition, Mr Nirmal Kr Bardia, Regional Chairman, Rajasthan and Mr Vijay
Kedia, Co-Convener, International Exhibitions.
De Beers cycle 3 reaches US$ 520mn
De Beers Group today announced the value of rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for the third sales cycle of 2018.
Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group, said: “While the second quarter of the year is traditionally a seasonally slower period, we continued to see good rough diamond demand in the third sales cycle of 2018 as diamond businesses have focused on restocking following healthy consumer demand for diamond jewellery in the US and China.”

1: Fura Gems Incis aggressively looking at organizing the USD 2 billion
gemstone market globally and istargeting a market share of 8% to 10% in the
next 3 years.
Focussed
on this mission, the company also announced the commencement of its Bulk
Sampling Program at the Coscuez emerald project in Boyacá, Colombia (theCoscuez
Emerald Mine). The Bulk Sampling Program has been initiated and a total of
30,000 tons of material from the mineralized body are expected to be collected
in the first phase of the program on or before 31 December 2018 using existing
tunnels.
This
will give a tremendous boost to Fura Gems’ operations in India since 60% of the
world's emeralds are cut and polished in the country.

Shetty, President&CEO of Fura Gems commented, “As a part of our larger
expansion strategy, India is one of the top 3 markets for us. We are
aggressively looking at the Bunder Diamond project in Madhya Pradesh and
projects in the states of Jharkhand and Odisha which have a huge potential in
terms of mineral deposits.

will be exploring mining acquisitions in these regions and will be working
closely with the central and state governments. Given our experience, we are
confident of reducing India’s coloured gemstones imports substantially.”
MrRupak
Sen, Vice President – Marketing & Sales of Fura Gems said, “India is the
largest cutting and polishing centre for Emeralds in terms of volume. There is
a growing demand for Emeralds in the Indian market and we intend to capitalise
on the same by strategically organising the sector.”
Fura
Gems owns a 76% beneficial interest in the Coscuez Emerald Mine, which covers a
total area of 46 hectares. The main purpose of the Bulk Sampling Program is to
collect the most representative samples from the mineralized body at different
levels from all accessible tunnels and workings within the Coscuez Emerald
Mine.
During
the initial phase of bulk sampling, a total of 1,720 carats of emeralds were
mined, out of which 826 carats were high quality emeralds. The Fura management
team has started designing the pilot wash-plant to support the bulk sampling
process with a rated capacity of 30 tons per hour and the Company expects such
plant to be commissioned on or before 30 June 2018.
MrShetty
further added, “We have achieved an important milestone by commencing the bulk
sampling mining operation at the Coscuez emerald mine within eight weeks of the
completing the acquisition of the mine. The initial production of 1,720 carats
of emeralds, including 826 carats of top quality emeralds, during the early
stage of the program further confirms the quality of the Coscuez emerald mine.
We
will continue to build our geological knowledge of the license area and also
strive to modernize the Coscuez emerald mine. Fura has now become the first
publicly listed company in the world to commence a bulk sampling operation in
Colombia, the world’s largest supplier of emeralds.
We
have also entered into agreements to acquire four Ruby licences in Mozambique
and have started with the exploration process and will soon be coming up with
more details on that. Fura Gems owns 80% effective interest in these Ruby
licenses.”

Mountain completes Gahcho Kué Drilling

Province Diamonds announces full drilling results from the exploration program
recently completed in the Southwest Corridor area of the Gahcho Kué mine site.
The Southwest Corridor area lies between the 5034 and Hearne pipes, and in the
course of mining activity has been recognized as containing diamondiferous
kimberlite that is not included in the project resource statements.
The
exploration drill program in the Southwest Corridor, originally planned for 17
holes and subsequently increased to 18 holes, was based on a 50 metre by 50
metre spacing plan and was commenced in November 2017. A total of 15 holes were
designed to cross-cut the projected south westward extension of kimberlite from
the 5034 pipe that would likely be included in the Gahcho Kué mine plan.
Stornoway produced 285851 cts in Q1
Stornoway
Diamond provides production and sales results at the Renard Diamond Mine for
the first quarter ended March 31, 2018 & says, 399,135 carats sold in three
tender sales for gross proceeds of $56.4 million at an average price of US$112
per carat & pre carats bag $141.
Included
in the sales was a 37 carat Type II-a, D colour, internally flawless stone that
sold for US$1.3 million, US$36,000 per carat, the highest price achieved for an
individual stone from the Renard Diamond Mine to date. First quarter diamond
production was 285,851 carats.
