Alrosa temporarily suspends mining
In a
statement Alrosa said, Alrosa will temporarily suspend mining works at Aikhal
underground mine and Zarya open pit from May 15. The decision was taken due to
the decrease in demand and sales for diamonds, as the major consuming economies
are struggling with economic headwinds caused by the global spread of
Covid-2019 virus.
Mining at Aikhal will be put on care and maintenance from May 15 to
September 30, 2020, at Zarya – from May 15 to December 31, 2020. Zarya employs
180 miners, Aikhal has 502 staff members. Part of the mine’s personnel will be
involved in maintenance and other required continuous works.
Gold-backed ETF up 5.1% in April
April highlights: Globally,
gold-backed ETFs (gold ETFs) added 170 tonnes(t) – net inflows of US$9.3bn
(+5.1%) – in April, boosting holdings to a new all-time high of 3,355t.1 Assets
under management (AUM) also reached a new record high of US$184bn as gold in US
dollars moved higher by 5.8%.
Inflows
have been strong and consistent in recent months, but not unprecedented.
Rolling twelve-month inflows of 879t just surpassed those of 2009 and 2016,
while rolling six-month inflows have barely experienced two-thirds of the 457t
of inflows in the comparable time periods of 2009 and 2016.
A manual to resume post lockdown

WFDB launches YDs website!
The
World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) is excited to announce the launch of
its Young Diamantaires (YDs) website
www.ydts.org.
The organization has worked for the past four years with young members of the
diamond community all over the world to create a platform through which they
can express their thoughts, opinions and views in a safe and constructive
manner.
The
website itself was physically built by the members for the members. It is in
its first iteration and there are plans to expand its functionality. Rami
Baron, Chairman of the Promotion Committee of the WFDB and founder of the Young
Diamantaires describes the four pillars as the foundation from which the group
will grow:

Perceptible change in the global supply-chains
Shri
Goyal says that in the post-Covid era, there is going to be perceptible change
in the global supply-chains, and India should be looking to capture significant
share in the world trade.
Minister

Resumption of PGM refining plant
Anglo
American plc notes the announcement by Anglo American Platinum Limited released
to the Johannesburg stock exchange. Anglo American Platinum has safely and
successfully completed the repair of the Anglo Converter Plant (ACP) Phase B
unit. The ACP and full downstream processing operations are completing a safe
ramp-up and expect to be fully operational from 12 May 2020. Force majeure to
suppliers of concentrate will be lifted on that date.
CEO
of Anglo American Platinum, Natascha Viljoen, stated, “I am pleased to report
that we have safely and successfully completed the repair of the ACP Phase B
unit ahead of schedule, enabling the restart of refined production of our
platinum group metals and our base metals.
SART Plant at Parral at Commissioning
GoGold
Resources Inc reported that the previously announced SART project has been
successfully installed and commissioned at its Parral Tailings facility located
in Chihuahua, Mexico. The SART plant is
providing important economic and technical benefits to the Parral facility. The
main economic drivers are the recovery of a high-grade saleable copper sulfide
product, the re-generation of cyanide, which is the largest single operating
cost at Parral, and improve the leaching efficiency of the heap.
