Emerald production improves at Kagem
The
hard work and dedication of employees at the Kagem emerald mine in Lufwanyama
have helped the company meet production targets and resulted in a straight 22
months’ of bonuses being paid to all staff. After a difficult 2017 during which
production dropped dramatically, 2018 and 2019 have seen improvement for the mine,
which is operated by London-based Gemfields in partnership with the
government’s Industrial development Corporation (IDC).
Gold: the most effective commodity!
Recently
the World Gold Council (WGC) -the market development organisation for the gold
industry, published the report, ‘Gold: the most effective commodity investment-Why
it is under-represented in commodity indices and the potential impact on your
portfolio.
According
to the report, gold allocations of 2%-10% in a typical pension portfolio have
provided better risk-adjusted returns than those with broad-based commodity
allocations. Investors have long recognised the benefits of investing in
commodities.

India-USA jewellery BSM debuts!
The
first-ever India-US Jewellery Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) was inaugurated by Mr.
Colin Shah, Vice Chairman, Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)
along with Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, ED, GJEPC. Leading Indian jewellery exporters
interacted with a delegation of over 32 topmost jewellery buyers.
A
delegation 23 from United States and 9 from New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, United
Kingdom and Germany-comprising a mix of jewellery retailers, wholesalers and
distributors as representatives of merchandising/ buying groups and best
practice groups of independent retailer jewellers as well as VP merchandising
and buyers from large and small regional chains. America is the largest (by
value) jewellery market in the world.
Amulsar project to be restored
Lydian
International announced that during a live Facebook broadcast, Prime Minister
Nikol Pashinyan, of the Republic of Armenia stated that access to the Amulsar
Project site should be restored and the protesters blocking access should open
the roads.
The
Prime Minister also stated that there is no legal basis on which the Government
of Armenia can prevent Lydian from advancing the Amulsar Project in accordance
with permits based on an existing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or
require an additional EIA regarding the Amulsar Project at this time.
A magical anomaly of nature!
Gemfields
highlighted, “In Bemba, the local language of northern Zambia, Bela means
emerald. It takes extremely rare geological conditions for the gem to be born,
a magical anomaly of nature.”

Angola unveils third diamond cutting plant
Angola
announced a third diamond cutting factory worth USD 5 million, whose initial
production capacity stands at 5,000 carats/month. Called Pedra Rubra, the
factory is located in an area of about 458 square meters, in the district of
Maianga (Luanda), according to a note from the private company reached Angop.
The
factory owner, Hélder Milagre, said the company also has five jewelry stores in
Luanda and expects to produce, in the short term, enough jewelry to meet
domestic market demand. He asked commercial banks to facilitate foreign
exchange buying, as the rough diamonds are bought in foreign currency and sales
in Angola (jewelry) in local currency (kwanzas).
