Gold-backed ETFs jumps in September!
In
September, global gold-backed ETFs and similar products had US$3.9bn of net
inflows across all regions, increasing their collective gold holdings by 75.2t
to 2,808 tonnes (t), the highest levels of all time. Holdings surpassed late
2012 levels, at which time the gold price was near US$1,700/oz, 18% higher than
current levels.

Matryoshka diamond found in Yakutia
An
unusual diamond with another diamond moving freely inside was mined in Yakutia
at the Nyurba mining and processing division of Alrosa. Due to its peculiarity,
the stone resembles a traditional Russian Matryoshka doll. According to the
experts who have studied the find, this is the first such diamond in the
history of global diamond mining.
Lesotho renewed Letšeng lease

DGCX breaks all-time volumes record
The
Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) has continued its record-breaking
performance this year, registering its best quarter since inception with over
7.98 million contracts traded in the third quarter of 2019, with over 2.37
million contracts traded in September, valued at USD 41 billion.
The
Exchange also recorded a monthly Average Open Interest (AOI) of 410,847
contracts in September, its highest AOI since September 2016. Average Daily
Volumes (ADV) in September reached 112,988 per day, up 20% year-on-year
(Y-O-Y).
Unki platinum, the first IRMA Mining
Anglo
American announces that its Unki platinum mine in Zimbabwe is the first to
publicly commit to be independently audited against the Initiative for
Responsible Mining Assurance’s (IRMA) ‘Standard for Responsible Mining’.
IRMA’s
Standard for Responsible Mining has been developed over ten years through a
public consultation process with more than 100 different individuals and
organisations, including mining companies, customers and the ultimate
downstream users of mined products, NGOs, labour unions, and communities.
