Standards making and Implementation
Bureau
of Indian Standards (BIS) as the National Standards Body has the responsibility
to lead and co-ordinate the standardization activities in the country to meet
the emerging standardization needs and expectations of Indian industry,
government and consumers.
As
India positions itself among the top economies of the world, it is also
important for BIS to ensure that India is able to influence and play a leading
role in international standardization fora. It is with this expectation that a
meeting was convened to review the process of standards formulation and their
implementation in various sectors. The
industry was represented through industry associations such as CII and FICCI.

Shenzhen inks personal bankruptcy laws
Shenzhen
has drafted China’s first personal bankruptcy laws as the southern city tackles
broader economic troubles stemming from the coronavirus outbreak, paving the
way for others to follow suit, said CER.
The
rules are intended to give “honest and unfortunate” debtors the chance to
escape the mire of debt and make a comeback, the city government said in an
official post. Despite corporate bankruptcy laws nationwide since 2007,
individuals are still held personally liable for business debts, making their
recovery particularly difficult, according to draft rules posted on a Shenzhen
government website.
Gold attitude to hike all-time high in 2020
“The
various items we’re looking at all point to the same direction and pretty well
the same number,” said Ross Norman in a presentation. He also said, Gold Price
Could Approach All-time High in 2020.
Despite
some turmoil, gold has performed strongly overall in 2020 as of April 23, it
was up around 11 percent year-to-date, trading near US$1,720 per ounce. But
where is gold going for the rest of the year? According to independent analyst
Ross Norman, the metal could get close to the US$1,900 level in 2020, and it
may even pass that point.

New Norms of classification of MSMEs
Union
Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises have issued Gazette
notification to pave way for implementation of the upward revision in the
definition and criteria of MSMEs in the country. The new definition and
criterion will come into effect from 1st July, 2020.
After
14 years since the MSME Development Act came into existence in 2006, a revision
in MSME definition was announced in the Atmnirbhar Bharat package on 13th May,
2020. As per this announcement, the definition of Micro manufacturing and
services units was increased to Rs. 1 Crore of investment and Rs. 5 Crore of
turnover.
