Angola improves diamond exploration

The approval of the regulation of semi-industrial exploration and the sale of diamonds, part of the legal reforms of the mining sector underway in Angola since 2018, allowed the improvement of the management and exploration of this resource in the country, reads a note from Endiama that Angop had access.

The current Presidential Decree that regulates this activity provides that the Diamond Marketing Policy is submitted to an evaluation period after one year of its implementation, and its results must be evaluated and presented within 180 days.

The document states that the current situation in diamond exploration activities is characterized by an accelerated process of formalization, economic and legal integration of economic operators, as well as altering the anarchic framework in which diamond exploration was in the country.

The new diamond sales modalities, implemented by the Angolan Executive, in the last two years, allow the base sale reference price to be previously defined by agreement of the main players in the process, namely, the producer, Sodiam and the independent appraiser.

The dynamism and transparency in the application process of customers, with the implementation of the online platform are other innovations that revolutionized the diamond sector.
