Integrating Bimstec 2020 expo

To run through 26th - 28th February, 2020

 

The Inaugural of the Bimstec Expo 2020 and Integrating Bimstec 2020 organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), under the aegis of Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India took place from (26th February) at World Trade Centre, Mumbai.

 

Mr. Tipu Munshi, Hon’ble Commerce Minister, Government of Bangladesh inaugurated the three-day long Exhibition and Conference as the “Chief Guest” of the programme. Apart from him, important dignitaries who graced the occasion included Mr. Virander Paul, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India; Dr. Damaru Ballabha Paudel, Director, Bimstec Secretariat; Mr. Ali Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute; Mr. R. S. Srivastava, Investment Commissioner, Government of Bihar; Mr. David Rasquinha, Managing Director, Export-Import Bank of India; Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Hon’ble Consul General, Consulate-General of Thailand in Mumbai; Mr. Vijay G. Kalantri, President, All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and Vice Chairman, World Trade Center, Mumbai.

 

Mr. Tipu Munshi, Hon’ble Commerce Minister, Government of Bangladesh gave a nice glimpse of the huge opportunities and potentials in Bimstec region. He pointed out that agriculture is the main pillar of Bimstec economies.

 

Member states should focus on developing agricultural value chain among Bimstec Countries. Projects on environmental degradation, agro-tourism, irrigation, irrigation grid development and value chain of high value commodities can bring people of this region out of poverty. Hon’ble Minister also announced that Bangladesh would be happy to host BIMSTEC Business Summit within next three/ four months.

 

Dr. Damaru Ballabha Paudel, Director, Bimstec Secretariat opined that improving business environment and connectivity has become a priority focus for both Bimstec and the business enterprises of this region. He also mentioned that the importance of Government-Private sector partnership to improve business climate could not be over-emphasised.

 

Conjoint with the Conference an international Exhibition is also organised at World Trade Center. Around fifty companies from all across the Bimstec countries participated in the exhibition to showcase and sale their respective products. The exhibition will continue till 28th February, 2020.

 

The Inaugural Session of this programme saw very good delegate participation representing business fraternity and other stakeholders.
