European CN codes for synthetic diamonds
AWDC said, The European Commission has published the European Combined Nomenclature for precious stones, which introduces new customs codes for synthetic diamonds.
Currently, the same customs code is used for all synthetic precious stones (including synthetic diamond). What will change as of next year is that a distinction is made in customs codes for synthetic diamonds on the one hand and other synthetic precious stones on the other hand. One will thus have to use the correct code depending on the imported/exported good.
The new nomenclature can be found at (Chapter 71, overview of the codes on p. 461). This legislation will enter into force on January 1st, 2020. These new European CN codes will have to be used in all declarations as of 2020 (customs declaration, INTRASTAT declaration…).
If you make use of Diamond Office as your customs declarant, this use of the new codes will automatically be done for you. If you fulfil your declaration duties yourself, keep in mind to use the new codes as of January 1st, 2020. These European codes are temporary and will be applied until January 1st, 2022. As of 2022, they will be replaced by the new HS6 customs code adopted by the World Customs Organization which will have worldwide application.
